Il private equity nel settore energetico: analisi e prospettive

Abstract

Questo lavoro si pone l’obiettivo di individuare le principali dinamiche di sviluppo del private equity nel settore energetico. Nella prima parte è stato analizzato lo scenario energetico, a livello mondiale e nazionale. La seconda parte è dedicata all’analisi approfondita delle principali operazioni di investimento dei private equity nel settore energetico. Il risultato evidenzia due diversi ambiti di interesse: l’uno riguarda il settore energetico tradizionale; l’altro invece riguarda i settori delle energie rinnovabili e delle nuove tecnologie. La ricerca ha evidenziato un interesse crescente nel settore dell’energia rinnovabile da parte dei private equity. Tale risultato dipende da vari fattori, tra cui la notevole influenza delle previsioni dei prezzi del petrolio sulle valutazioni finanziarie. Analizzando il rendimento atteso dell’investimento in un impianto a fonte rinnovabile, si mostra che esso varia sensibilmente passando da uno scenario a brent costante ad uno scenario a brent crescente. Le fonti rinnovabili rappresentano quindi per il private equity un’opportunità di investimento ad elevate prospettive.

This work talks about the principle development dynamics of the private equity in the energy sector, analyzing the principle investment operations. The first part of thesis analyzes the energetic scenario, in the world and in Italy. The second part analyzes the principal investment operations of the private equity in the energy sector. The research show two different ambits: the first one dealt with the companies that works in the traditional energy sectors; the second one is about companies that works in the new technologies and renewable energy sector. The outcome of the research show how private equity company are increasing their investments in renewable energy sector. There are many reasons for this. The main one is the incessant growth of the fossil fuel cost, caused by exchange in the world market. This factor affects upon the financial evaluation. The expected financial investment return can be affected by the fluctuation of brent. Renewable energy can be an interesting and high return sector for the private equity investments.
