Title: Variazioni sul tema: i casi di “The Front Page”
Authors: Gresleri, Lapo
Issue Date: 2021
Document Type: Article
It seems simplistic to consider the cinematographic remake as a simple business operation, which offers a past success with the aim of reaching its outcomes. It is more stimulating to observe the variations from one version to another, tracing the creative contribution of each author, in a process which involves the source, the different personal poetics and tastes of the public. This is what this essay proposes, examining The Front Page by Lewis Milestone (1931), His Girl’s Friday by Howard Hawks (1940) and The Front Page by Billy Wilder (1974), all derived from a famous play by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur (1928).
