The role of librarians in the age of Internet

Abstract

The development of the Internet during the past four decades has had a profound impact on society in general, and on the field of library and information science in particular: it has been strong, and it has involved the processes, the functions, the services, the media and the information resources: the library as a whole. At the point that this impact (defined “monumental in both scope and practice”) has made someone say that a “new librarianship” was growing up.
