Il corso ha come obiettivo la formazione di Dottori di Ricerca con basi ed esperienze adatte all'inserimento nel mondo della ricerca finalizzata alla progettazione, scoperta, sviluppo, produzione e controllo dei farmaci e prodotti per la salute. Fornisce una formazione multidisciplinare, con contributi da diversi settori scientifico-disciplinari, principalmente nelle aree chimiche e biologiche, con prevalenza dei settori chimicofarmaceutico, tecnologico-farmaceutico, farmacologico e biochimico, ma anche dalle aree biofisiche e biomediche-veterinarie, coinvolte nella definizione degli obiettivi del corso. Il corso si articola in quattro ambiti più specifici, nei quali si può realizzare l'attività di ricerca dei dottorandi, ovvero: 1) progettazione e sintesi di composti biologicamente attivi; 2) biofarmaceutica-farmacocinetica; 3) farmacologia e tossicologia sperimentali; 4) biochimica, biofisica e biologia molecolare.
