| en_US |
dc.description.abstract | Besides being the most popular form of entertainment during the Fascist "Ventennio", cinema was one of the main tools used by Mussolini's regime to put into practice its projects of totalitarian pedagogy, which, as is well known, aimed at radically transforming the mentality, customs, and character of Italians. The research seeks to reconstruct how cinema - in the dual meaning of documentary and fictional cinema - was used in the 1920s and 1930s as a functional educational tool to make children and adolescents of both sexes perfect fascists. After analyzing the relationship between the film medium and minors in the broader media context of the time and tracing a phenomenology of cultural consumption practices, how cinema made its entry into school and extracurricular institutions are reconstructed, and then light is shed on the ambivalent attitudes of teachers and educators who considered the medium a powerful educational tool but also, at the same time, a danger to the morality of young viewers. After that, starting with some writings composed by children after watching films, the historical horizon in which the reception of films was implemented is outlined, looking at the complex interplay between writings, film texts, and contextual elements. | en_US |
