| en_US |
dc.description.abstract | HIV-related neurocognitive disorders (HANDs) are a common occurrence with the infection. In this work, after an introduction on different kinds of dementia, we aimed to confirm the importance of non-pharmacologic strategies in the treatment of HIV-positive patients with HANDs, through the study of articles and meta-analyses. In fact, treatment with cART (combined antiretroviral therapy), the standard treatment to date, has demonstrated neurotoxic adverse effects that act in a synergistic way with the primary effects of the virus on the central nervous system (CNS). We report the results of various training techniques that not only improve cognitive function, but also reduce the associated psychological and behavioral disturbances, such as depression and anxiety, and produce improvement in quality of life, all aspects that are compromised at various levels in HANDs. | en_US |
