Pregiudizio e omonegatività nella popolazione universitaria

Abstract

L'Italia, a differenza degli altri paesi europei, risulta essere gravemente arretrata nel progresso dei diritti LGBT+: la discriminazione per motivi d'orientamento sessuale, oltre che per le espressioni di genere, risulta infatti, ancora oggi, una problematica che mette gravemente a rischio il benessere di chi esula dai preconcetti di origine eteronormativa. Poiché è un argomento non ancora ampliamente trattato in letteratura e date le poche indagini nella popolazione italiana, questa ricerca si propone dapprima di inquadrare il contesto in cui emerge e si sviluppa il pregiudizio omofobico, sia da un punto di vista sociale che legislativo; successivamente viene presentata un'analisi dell'omonegatività condotta su un campione di 330 studenti universitari dislocati in diversi atenei italiani. Viene utilizzata la Multidimensional Scale of Attitudes Toward Lesbians and Gay Men (Gato et al., 2012), che si compone di due scale adeguate a rilevare tratti più tradizionali e tratti più moderni del costrutto relativo all'omonegatività. I risultati delle analisi condotte nel gruppo di studenti che si dichiarano esclusivamente eterosessuali, evidenziano un'associazione tra pregiudizio omofobico e alcune variabili sociodemografiche, in particolare con l'orientamento politico e con l'avere (almeno) una conoscenza di orientamento omosessuale. Emerge, inoltre, anche dal confronto con il gruppo dei non esclusivamente eterosessuali, il superamento degli atteggiamenti maggiormente associati all'omofobia di stampo classico. Rimangono elevate, di contro, le attitudini rilevate dall'omonegatività moderna, associata perlopiù alle manifestazioni dell'eterosessismo e alle forme di supporto. Viene infine proposto un piano strategico la cui adozione andrebbe a favorire un'educazione più inclusiva per l'omosessualità e l'abbattimento dello stigma, riducendo così i livelli di pregiudizio omofobico.

Unlike other European countries, Italy is very backward on the progress of LGBT rights: sex discrimination, as well as gender discrimination, is still a serious problem that affects and threatens the wellbeing of those who do not follow or support heteronormative bias. Since homophobic bias still hardly dealt with in literature and because of very few researches on Italian population, this study aims at firstly analyze both social and legal aspects of the context where the homophobic bias originates and develops; secondly, it shows data homonegativity collected from a sample of 330 students from different Italian Universities. The study used Multidimensional Scale of Attitudes Toward Lesbians and Gay Men (Gato et al, 2012) that includes two scales developed to find out the most conventional as well as modern features of social construct related to homonegativity. The results from the studies carried out on the group of students who said they have an exclusively heterosexual orientation show an association between homophobic bias and a socialdemographic variables, namely political ones, as well as having (at least) once chance of knowledge of homosexual orientation. Moreover, these students also when compared to the group of students who said they are not exclusively heterosexual showed they overcome attitudes mostly linked to homophobia of a conventional kind. On the other hand, they showed a number of attitudes associated with modern homonegativity mostly linked to manifestations of heterosexism and to support kinds. Eventually this study proposes a strategic plan the use of which would enhance a more inclusive education for homosexuality and the removal of stigma, which would greatly cut the levels of homophobic prejudice down.
