Abstract: | Questa tesi bibliografica tratterà della performatività, in particolare della performance
interviste e questionari), o semplicemente contributi teorici.
simulazione incarnata e dell'imitazione.
Lecoq, Barba, Strasberg e Meisner.
domande ancora senza risposta. This bibliographical thesis deals with performativity, particularly actor performance and its relation to neuroscientific research. Not many studies have been conducted on acting from a neuroscientific perspective, so research carried out through other methods of investigation, such as behavioural, descriptive-correlational, phenomenological-qualitative studies (through interviews and questionnaires), or simply theoretical contributions, will also be examined. The first chapter summarises basic scientific and theoretical concepts, and provides useful insights into the technical aspects involved in the relationship between neuroscientific research and acting. I shall discuss the mechanism of mirror neurons and their functionality. I shall also discuss the theory of embodied simulation and imitation. I shall talk about language and non-verbal communication, focusing on the motor theory of language and on gestures and their connections with speech. I shall discuss emotions and the origin of performance. In the second chapter, I shall better define what is meant by acting, starting from the “Paradox of the Actor” by the French philosopher Denis Diderot, still valid and debated today. I shall address the concept of style and describe in detail the different acting styles, using the important contributions of playwrights, dramatists, actors, directors and teachers. I shall refer to the most important personalities who have characterised the debate on the actor, bringing new original contributions to the subject of acting. They include, among others, Stanislavski, Chekhov, Mejerchol'd, Grotowski, Brecht, Lecoq, Barba, Strasberg and Meisner. In the third chapter I shall outline all the most important studies that have considered the study of acting from a scientific perspective. I shall also give examples of research that has dealt indirectly with acting, e.g. using actors and actresses as experimental subjects, or that have simply investigated only certain specific skills related, and essential, to acting. I shall tackle the theme of the actor- spectator relationship, then continue with studies on emotions. I shall also talk about the memory of actors and their memorisation process, about gesture, intention, gazes and improvisation and, last but not least, about the personality of actors, linking this last topic to the concept of the "interpretation of a character" and the flow experience. The thesis also contains some of my reflections, my arguments and a number of questions that are, as yet, unanswered. |
