Mammary neoplasms are by far the most common tumor type in females dogs. The main goal of this thesis project is to analyse different types of anamnestics and clinical information in order to clarify their prognostic role in the occurrence of mammary neoplasms, with a particular reference to ovariohysterectomy (OHE). In particular, the breed of the affected subjects, their body weight, whether the subject was intact or ovariohysterectomized at the time of tumor development, the histotype of the neoplasm, the age of onset of the neoplasm, its size, its localization, the execution of the OHE at the same time as the mastectomy, any relapses and/or metastases, and the current condition of the subject were included as clinical information within the study. In the population examined at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (OVUD) of the University of Parma, including 28 subjects, the most represented breeds were mongrels, followed by hunting dogs (pointer, kurzhaar, breton), and golden retriever. The median body weight was 23 kg, while the median age of onset was 10 years and 6 months. Approximately 50% of the considered histological types were malignant and, among them, there was a prevalence of tubulopapillary carcinoma and simple tubular carcinoma, followed by myoepithelioma, squamous cell carcinoma and ductal adenocarcinoma and carcinosarcoma. The evaluation of the selected data reveals that all the neoplasms with a diameter smaller than 2 cm were benign while the tumor larger than 6 cm were malignant. The most frequently encountered mammary neoplasms were found in the inguinal glands. The population was divided into two subgroups, namely, A and B, in order to evaluate the prognostic effect of the OHE performed at the time of mastectomy (group A) compared to non-sterilization or OHE at earlier time in relation to mastectomy (group B). Dogs in group A, showed a relapse rate of 25%, with an average disease free time of 821 days and an average survival time of 829,92 days. Dogs in group B reached a relapse rate of 31.3%, with an average disease free time of 951,94 days and an average survival time of 1093,19 days. Due to these results, It would seem that OHE is not able to bring benefits on disease free time and survival time, but the curves do not show a statistically significant difference in the Mantel- Cox test.en_US
