Many studies in literature demonstrate that emotions cannot be considered separately from cognition. Based on these studies the working hypothesis of this thesis is to investigate the link between affection and cognition. This work evaluated pessimistic or optimistic judgments towards ambiguous stimuli in dogs appearing anxious from a behavioral questionnaire previously administered to owners. Subsequently, the Judgment Bias Test (JBT) was used to investigate the link between affection and cognition. The hypothesis is that animals in a negative affective state are more likely to respond to ambiguous signals as if they predicted the negative event (pessimistic response), than animals in a more positive state. The aim of this research is therefore to measure behavioral variability and identify and understand the hereditary and environmental factors that influence various behavioral traits.
