Traditional kennel shows a series of structural and managerial critical points (lack of re-sources, degradation, lack of training, professionalism and services) which affect negatively the adoption process, increase the risk of dog abandonment or returns and reinforce an in-correct representation of the dog and the kennel structure. From all this comes the need for a transition from traditional kennel to zooanthropological kennel, which has the focus on the relationship between man and dog. In order for this change to take place the infrastructure must be restructured and the kennel have to switch from an amateur management to a business management, ensure the creation of multidisciplinary teams, ensure continuous internal education and become the centre of dog culture. Starting from these premises, the objective of this research was to assess whether there is a correlation between the professional figures present in kennel, the activities that are consid-ered fundamental for the correct functioning of the structure (and by whom they are car-ried out) and the functional parameters of the kennel. The thesis is composed of a first descriptive part in which the man-dog relationship, the kennel and the professional figures are presented from a cognitive-zooanthropological per-spective, while the second part is reserved for data collection, the presentation of results and their description. Despite the fact that no significant relationships between professional figures or activities and the functional parameters have been highlighted, the research has shown a tendency to change, but in the perspective of transformation, the work inside the Italian kennels have a long way to go.it
