Abstract: A retrospective study was conducted on dogs affected by idiopathic chronic enteropathies presented to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of University of Parma, Italy and to San Geminiano clinic of Modena, Italy between June 2013 and July 2019. The aim of the study was to evaluate the potential diagnostic value of ultrasonography and the predictive value of certain ultrasound findings on the degree of intestinal inflammation detected by histopathology. Inclusion criteria were dogs with chronic gastrointestinal signs, ultrasonographic exam followed by the endoscopic evaluation with bioptic relief and, eventually, the histopathologic exam performed by laboratories. Ultrasound and endoscopic reports were evaluated, and a degree of severity was proposed for each one: mild, moderate and severe. They were then compared to the degree of inflammation decreed by the histopathology. Data were evaluated with descripted analysis and the result were compared with statistical analysis in order to verify any statistical significance between ultrasonographic, endoscopic and histological degree.
