Abstract: Shar Pei Autoinflammatory disease (SPAID) is an autoinflammatory disease typical of this canine breed, which represents the only case of this type of disease discovered in domestic animals. It is characterized by frequent febrile episodes, accompanied by swelling hocks, sensory depression, painful manifestations and can lead the animal to death for renal failure due to deposition of amyloid substance. Clinically, the presence of these symptoms, associated with alteration of blood and urinary parameters, allows the inclusion of this pathology among the differential diagnoses together with tick-borne diseases, mastocytomas and immune-mediated lymphangitis. There is also, on the market since 2017, a genetic test that allows to recognize the degree of risk of the tested animal, to the onset of this disease. The acute phase therapy consists of the use of antipyretics or anti-inflammatories and in the chronic one uses colchicine, the choice’s drug in human autoinflammatory diseases. The correlations between SPAID and the human FMF and mucinosis are many: the shar pei affected by SPAID can represent a study model for the research of new therapeutic protocols useful both to the dog and to the human.
