This article reports on the symposium IMPACT14 that took place at Pact Zollverein choreographic centre in Essen (20-23 November 2014). The lecturers were art history professor Dorothea von Hantelmann, musician Jonathan Bepler and performer Kate McIntosh. Between theoretical and practical sessions, the workshop stimulated the sharing and the in-depth analysis of different critical aspects of the notion of “exposure”. Dorothea von Hantelmann underlined the ritual dimension by describing it as a social practice that has its historical/philosophical origins in Humanism. Jonathan Bepler has dragged the participants into a practice-based proposition aimed at exploring vocal emission. At the end of the session, the participants have performed Bepler’s performance at Approximation Festival in Düsseldorf. As a synthesis, McIntosh alternated discussion and practice; she asked the participants to write down the score for a performance.
