kitchen show.
luogo deputato all’arte e no, fra pubblico e privato.
The Hans Ulrich Obrist’s artwork experience started in his kitchen with The kitchen show. It was 1991 and, immediaely after, he curated Gerard Richter’s exhibition in Nietzsche’s house. Five years before, Jan Hoet had involved fiftyeight private houses in Gand in a widespread art exhibition, Chambre d’Amis, which became famous. Since the Seventies, the art exhibition has left the boundaries of the art system, galleries, museums and, after having occupied the streets, entered the houses, even only for a evening. In the kitchen, in the badroom or in the bathroom: the distinction between what is art space and what isn’t, between the public and private disappears. It means a change in the percepition of artwork and about the social relations arising from art use. This article aims to report and analyze the art exhibition in domestic spaces during the Nineties, with a particular focus on the non profit realities in Italy. |
