Travelling outside and beyond the western world became a significant practice for many Young theatre companies during the Sixties and the Seventies. This essay affords a critical reconstruction ofone of these itineraries, the trip that Peter Brook's ensemble undertook through Africa, Middle Eastand the Americas: which dimensions of theatrical and dramaturgical experimentation it involved? Ifocus in particular on the use of di Farid od-Din 'Attar's sufi poem as a fulcrum to grow commonimagery between the actors and its different publics, and to develop original training methods for theactors. |
